The book will be released at the opening event of the Museum of Incense and Local Products of Hoi An, Quang Nam (No.57 Tran Phu street, Hoi An city).
With favorable natural conditions, especially soil and climate, the area of Quang Nam is considered a fertile land, which has varied products both from the mountain and from the sea. Many types of incense and local products are precious and have high commercial value. This was commented by scholar Le Quy Don in the Phủ biên tạp lục (Miscellaneous Chronicles of the Pacified Frontier 1776). The abundance and richness of Quang Nam's products and the open-door external economic policy of the Nguyen administration had promoted Hoi An to develop into the most bustling international trading port during the Middle Ages. Hoi An trading port became a place where products of both Quang Nam and Dang Trong (the South region of Vietnam) converged to spread throughout the world.
To identify and clarify the source of incense and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam in international trade activities and the role of Hoi An port in the trade route of these items, with the consensus of the Hoi An city People's Committee, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation will compile and publish a book titled "Incense and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam". In addition to the appendix, the expected content will include 2 major parts: Incense and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam in history; Preservation and development of the value of incense and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam.
The compilation and publication of the book "Incense and Local Products of Hoi An, Quang Nam" is one of many activities organized by Hoi An city to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23) and the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site (December 4, 1999 - December 4, 2024). The book is expected to be introduced on the occasion of the opening of the Museum of Incense and Local Products of Hoi An, Quang Nam at the end of November 2024.
